Carl Kindborg, Managing Director & Head of Human Resources at EQT Group

Having a positive impact on someone else’s life is something that I find very rewarding. You gain just as much from the students as they gain from you.

What made you sign up as a mentor in the first place?

I have been fortunate enough to have had several mentors throughout my career, so I know how impactful and beneficial having a mentor can be in helping you become the best version of yourself. Also, having a positive impact on someone else’s life is something that I find very rewarding.

What does mentorship mean to you?

To me, mentorship means being part coach, part advisor, and part friend. As a mentor you are not there to give all the answers or provide your views but to listen and ask good questions, allowing the individual to find their own answers and course of action.

What is the best part about mentoring a student?

You gain just as much from the students as they gain from you. They provide fresh perspectives and have great energy and enthusiasm, which is contagious! It’s also a privilege getting to know some of the leaders of the future, both professionally and personally.

What advice would you give to future mentors?

Focus on being a good listener, keep an open mind, be curious, and ask exploring questions.
