Doing whatever it takes: Employee Commitment and its consequences
with Assistant Professor Wiley Wakeman
Retailers have long sought to find and reward committed employees who are willing to go the extra mile to support organizations. However, what if committed employees are willing to break the rules? Would retailers still seek and reward these employees?
On November 13, Wiley will share insights from an ongoing project, where rule breakers are found to be rewarded by leaders, when compared to their honorable peers, rewards that are given due to rule breaker’s perceived commitment. Only when rule breaking becomes extreme, and the liability of these sort of employees eclipses their commitment, does this effect reverse.
The seminar will end with a discussion about the difficulties in assessing employee commitment, and with an introduction of new research seeking to understand how employers and employees can more affectively measure organizational commitment.
