Job search behaviour during Covid-19

A recent report by Lena Hensvik, Thomas Le Barbanchon and Roland Rathelot shows that job search on Sweden’s largest job board Platsbanken changed markedly around the time of the outbreak of Covid 19.

The report analyses how the number of clicks per user and vacancy changed during the spring of 2020. The results suggest that job seekers have been reducing the number of clicks they make on the Platform to the extent that each job vacancy receives fewer applications than it did prior to the crisis. The finding means that hiring is more difficult for employers, in spite of the increase in the number of job seekers. The reduction is less severe in occupations more resilient to the crisis, suggesting that job seekers have updated their direction of search towards the available vacancies on the website.
