Center for Digital Innovation and Transformation

Center for Digital Innovation and Transformation (former Center for Information and Communications Research, CIC) was started in February 1997 with funding from the Research Board KFB/VINNOVA.

Center for Innovation and Digital Transformation, CDIT (former Center for Information and Communications Research, CIC) was started in 1997 to pursue business research on the supply and use of new information and communication technologies (ICT). During the first ten years research was geared toward telecommunications with a particular focus on mobile telephony studies, and also the media industries, including both demand and supply side studies. In a set of demand side oriented projects, the implementation and use by individuals and organizations of new mobile technologies have been in focus. The second group of more supply side oriented research projects have investigated viable new options for new technological and economical regimes for mobile communication. In addition, media industries have been in focus of research, including television and gaming.

Along with these studies, Center for Digital Innovation and Transformation has since 2010 also initiated research on digitalization and digital transformation processes, focusing on the use of digital technologies to change business models and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities. Based on empirical studies of both private and public organizations in a broad set of industries and sectors, Center for Digital Innovation and Transformation research has been directed towards how digital technologies can be used to improve or transform operations and business processes, business models, and markets. As part of the digital transformation research Center for Digital Innovation and Transformation has created a Think Tank for collecting research, case studies, and model development. The content of the Think Tank is developed in close contact with companies and organizations involved in digital transformation processes, and with external research partners, including the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).

Center for Digital Information and Transformation is a research center at SIR, Stockholm School of Economics Institute for Research. The SIR Foundation is a national research institute for the economic sciences, with a focus on Business Administration in the broadest sense.

CURRENT Project: A STUDY OF AI AS A NEW STRATEGIC IMPERATIVE

The project consists of three parts: An AI Business Lab, an empirical - basic research part, and a knowledge integration part, each consisting of work packages. Up to four companies in different industries are initially connected to the knowledge platform and its business development and implementation focus. One part consists of a knowledge integration package where knowledge from the research part and the business development part is integrated. The basic research part of the project aims to develop new, deep knowledge of the connection between strategy, business model development, and organization when new AI-based solutions are developed and implemented, something that has been defined as an important knowledge gap in existing AI research.
