Ongoing PhD projects

The Accounting Department has a number of PhD students. Below is brief description of their ongoing research projects.

PhD students (Year 5)

Malin Lund
Malin investigates management accounting practices in public sector services. More specifically, she focuses on the use of performance measures, particularly in areas that have implemented market-oriented solutions, such as freedom of choice in education.

Jamil Al-Najjar
Jamil conducts quantitative research in financial accounting. His current project focuses on the accounting choices of private firms facing regulatory changes in Sweden. He has broad interests in earnings management, accounting manipulation, disclosure, regulation, and corporate governance.

Oliver Lindqvist Parbratt
Oliver’s current work focuses on accounting and digitalization in public management. He also explores how accounting research can be developed using empirical insights from sports.

Yiwen Lu
Yiwen’s research focuses on social and environmental accounting practices, particularly sustainable supply chain governance in developing countries. She is also interested in interdisciplinary research on sustainability reporting and organizational studies.

PhD students (Year 4)

Isabella Nordlund
Isabella explores the roles of accountants and financial communication in the public sector. Her current research focuses on how CFO roles and identities are constructed and enacted.

Fanny Almersson
Fanny’s research focuses on management accounting in hybrid organizations. Her current project examines accounting and identity in a Swedish football organization.

Yao Cai
Yao studies management accounting with a focus on role identity, sensemaking, learning processes, and interaction in performance management. Her current research examines social impact reporting in fundraising organizations.

Anders Biörklund
Anders focuses on management accounting, particularly corporate restructuring and divestment initiatives in public companies. He is also interested in valuation and ESG-related topics.

Daining’s research interests include corporate ESG reporting and sustainability accounting.
