DELISH: Decoupling in a business practice via business model life cycle assessment and market shaping (2025-2028)
This research project explores how companies can redesign the way they do business to use fewer resources and produce less pollution — without sacrificing profit. The research centers on Business Model Life Cycle Assessment methodology, which links a company's financial data with its environmental footprint, making it possible to measure how "green" a business model actually is and where improvements can be made. The project complements business model innovations with insights on how markets can be shaped to scale up sustainable business model rules.
Combining these two approaches, the research team works closely with industry partners through real-world case studies, modeling, and simulation to find strategies that genuinely reduce environmental impact while keeping businesses financially healthy. Ultimately, the project aims to identify business models where decoupling economic growth from negative environmental impacts is possible and to support wider adoption of sustainable business models.
The project is funded by Mistra, The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research.
