Pär Mårtensson
Pär Mårtensson is a tenured Associate Professor at the SSE House of Innovation and Head of Pedagogy and Faculty Development at the Stockholm School of Economics. Pär also serves as the Chairman of the Board for the International Schools of Business Management, which is a consortium of business schools focusing on faculty development. He is also a faculty member and coach at the International Teachers Program.
Pär has written or co-edited eight books and published more than thirty book chapters and articles, including in journals like Journal of Higher Education Policy & Management, Management Research Review, MIS Quarterly, Production Planning and Control, and Research Policy. His current research focuses on three areas: teaching and learning at business schools, change management, and how quality of research can be evaluated. In the project “Evaluating Research”, Pär and his colleagues investigate how research practice and quality can be evaluated in various disciplines and by different stakeholders.
With more than 25 years of experience of teaching in various business school programs, executive education and in-company settings, Pär is interested in exploring teaching issues. Previously, he was for example co-founder of the SSE MBA Live Pedagogy, the founding director of a 2-year full-time master program, director for the EMBA-module on Change Live. Currently, he runs courses like “Developing Teaching Excellence”, “Teaching Executives”, and “The Inclusive Classroom”, besides teaching topics like “Tools for Change”.
Faculty development plays an important role for Pär. He was co-directing the International Teachers Program (ITP) when it was hosted by SSE and he co-edited the book Teaching and Learning at Business Schools: Transforming Business Education. Pär has contributed with faculty development workshops and faculty coaching to various business schools, like for example CEIBS Shanghai, HEC Paris, IMD Lausanne, ISB Hyderabad, London Business School, Kellogg Chicago, SDA Bocconi Milan, and WU Vienna.
He is a frequent coach and advisor to business leaders, in particular related to change or transformation initiatives, and in family businesses. For more than ten years, Pär has worked together with family businesses in different education programs, and together with families supporting their management processes, governance structures, and not the least transformation processes related to succession and the next generation.
