Sustainable finance

This platform explores how financial markets can be put to work for a sustainable development. The financial system plays a key role for reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Some of the key questions this platform is addressing are:

- The transformation needed for us to reach Agenda 2030 requires large amounts of capital to be shifted, for example to make the necessary investments in infrastructure and low-carbon solutions. How can this happen?

- How do we include more long-term perspectives into financial analysis and decision making?

- How do we include environmental, social and governance issues in financial models and into the capital market conversation?

- How efficient are different sustainable investment strategies? And what are their impacts on the economy?

The research platform consists of two separate research programs: Mistra Financial Systems and Vinnova Green Finance. Additionally, the platform includes a number of individual research projects.

Partnerships and affiliations

Since 2017, we are a part of Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre. It is a collaboration between Stockholm School of Economics and Stockholm Environment Institute, funded by the Swedish government, centred on research, education, innovation and engagement. It aims to accelerate and promote the shift in capital investments required to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate targets.

Stockholm School of Economics is a member of the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment, founded in 2017 to promote multi-disciplinary academic research on sustainable finance and investment. The Alliance consists of global research universities, each with expertise in this emerging field. We are also members of the Northern European Partnership for Sustainable Finance(NEPSF).
