ICA workshop about the organization of the workplace post COVID-19

Åsa Daxberg, Head of Talent Attraction & Recruitment at ICA provided the students with information about ICA's past, present and future work with the evolution of the office workspace, and how to provide effective work arrangements for their staff post COVID-19.

Åsa presented specific merits and detriments (for both the employer and employee) when it came to implementing a “hybrid” solution within ICA's workplace.

The students were also asked to discuss and answer the following three questions for ICA regarding their potential implementation of a “hybrid” workplace strategy:

• What increased value can you see that a hybrid workplace can create?
• What negative consequences do you expect?
• What actions do we need to take to minimize negative consequences and maximize positive effects?

Overall, upon reviewing the relevant documents, all groups concluded that ICA had established a solid base with their initiative. With regards to the value that was created from implementing a common hybrid workplace the common themes that had been identified by the students were: increased work flexibility, better overall work-life balance, and increased cost savings for the different stakeholders.

Regarding negative consequences, the students considered the social and communication aspects to be the most negatively impacted between the different functions and teams at ICA. As a solution to the communication issues that may arise from the implementation of a “hybrid” solution, it was suggested that ICA will need to enhance their communication aspect through the creation of clear guidelines (e.g. establishment of responsibilities & overall expectations during a set period of work), as well as the introduction of a weekly program citing the attendance of individuals within the workplace. Finally the establishment of various team activities was proposed, in an effort to adhere to the social interaction aspect.
