Relevant market boundaries

This research initiative by Anders Liljenberg sets out to address a recurrent challenge facing courts in relation to the competition law: that of properly identifying the relevant market against which any antitrust case is to be judged. Contemporary market changes such as the active formation of new markets and the reshaping of existing ones render this classical yet fundamental market law issue paramount in our days. Theoretically informed by Austrian economics and economic sociology, and methodologically inspired by research on performativity from within language philosophy, this research is empirically anchored in European market law rulings. Based on a systematic investigation of court judgements, the purpose is to construct a model by means of which the understanding of such rulings can be enriched in order to render the ensuing precedential function more robust and informative. The project will be conducted in cooperation with business law expertise.
