Lars Nilsson is represented in the SSE permanent collection with his photo Avsked (Farewell) from 2009 in room Estrid in the presidents office (pic above by Mikael Olsson).

Lars Nilsson is an artist who works with installations, paintings, films and photographs, and often combines references from different time periods and different genres. He was born in Stockholm in 1956, where he also lives and works, and was Professor of fine arts at Malmö Art Academy 1995-2006. His work has been exhibited at MoMA PS1, New York, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, among others.

During the fall of 2022 Lars Nilsson has curated an exhibition called När postmodernismen kom till stan (When post modernism came to town) at Kungliga Konstakademien. Lars will introduce us to the exhibition, and Art Initiative will do a visit to the exhibition in early November.

Avsked was part of Lars Nilsson´s exhibition Ruiner (Ruins) at the Stockholm gallery Milliken in 2009. The artwork is an interpretation of the book The road by Cormac McCarthy (2006), that Lars Nilsson read when working with the exhibition. The book is a post-apocalyphtic novel about a father and his young son walking alone through an America blasted by an unspecified cataclysm that has destroyed industrial civilization and almost all life.
