My research is about organizations and markets in the art world.
Why are some financing forms in the art world perceived as sacred and others as profane? What are the ideal types of organizing creative work in architectural companies? How do changed market practices re-organize an art world? What does it imply when certain objects are defined as artworks in one context and advertising in another?
These are examples of questions that interest me. The empirical contexts have often been international. I have previously done qualitative case studies in Beijing, London, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Manchester; and I am currently doing a project on the art and advertising of Absolut Vodka in Stockholm, Paris and New York.
My theoretical base is organizational theory rooted in sociology. I often use neoinstitutional organizational theory to understand the cultural and economic phenomena I study. I belong to the research center ABC – Arts, Business and Culture and had my first academic job as a research assistant at SCORE (the Stockholm Centre for Organizational Research). Before I was enrolled in the PhD Program, I worked as a management consultant in various large organizations both in the private and public sector.
