Competitive collaborations and resource management
Mattias Axelson is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Innovation and Operations Management at the Stockholm School of Economics. He is also Deputy Research Director at FOI, Division for Defence Analysis.
He has worked in the areas of strategy development, scenario planning and technology management. His experience spans over a wide area of industries. Over a number of years he has worked as adviser to the Swedish Ministry of Defence regarding defense industry transformation processes and corporate strategies.
His PhD thesis investigated how companies can manage communication of knowledge in collaborations in order to enhance competitive development of new products. It addresses an issue of importance for the development of competitive advantage in industries where the company’s operations increasingly take place in collaborations.
Among other things he developed a model that can be used in order to design collaborations that enable efficient knowledge communication. This has major implications for the capacity to use and develop knowledge resources during complex operations, such as the development of new products.
Mattias Axelson’s current research focuses on collaboration, technology strategy and product development. The research specifically address issues such as: implementation of strategies in networked companies, division of work between companies for development of new products and implementation of integrative processes between companies.
