The photograph En annan rörelse (2020) has replaced the painting En annan rörelse (1988) from March 2020, since the painting is being displayed in a retrospective exhibition at Norrköpings Konstmuseum, Cecilia Edefalk – Hemkomsten, March 28 - October 4, 2020.
The painting En annan rörelse is one out of seven in which Cecilia Edefalk explores the same topic through repetition. It was first shown in 1990 at Galleri Sten Eriksson in Stockholm and was Edefalk’s public breakthrough. She showed the same motif, in different sizes and with individual variations. Side by side, the paintings created a charged room. Cecilia Edefalk had transformed a fashion visual for sun cream into a piece of art with ambiguous signals, meanings and undercurrents.
Cecilia Edefalk often uses photographs as inspiration for her paintings, but she interprets them freely. Since she wasn’t using a model, she sought among earlier images for a solution. The black-and-white photograph brings her work full circle by returning the painting to the photographic format.
In connection with the exhibition in 1990, Norrköpings Konstmuseum acquired one of the seven paintings. Thirty years later, all seven paintings are brought together again at Cecilia Edefalk – Hemkomsten, having been generously lent to the exhibition. Welcome to see them together at Norrköpings Konstmuseum!
