Associate Professor and Center Director for the Research Center for Arts, Business & Culture (ABC)
Emma Stenström is Associate Professor and Center Director for the Research Center for Arts, Business & Culture (ABC) at Stockholm School of Economics. Ongoing research projects include a study on how the brand Absolut Vodka has worked with art and artists over time, a study on the aesthetical aspects of contemporary office design and activity-based working, and a study on the ethical/aesthetical economy. Previously she has conducted numerous studies mainly within different artistic and cultural fields, such as contemporary circus, dance, theatre, arts, crafts, design, and architecture. She has also studied collaborations between arts and businesses, artistic interventions in different kind of organizations, private funding of the arts, and cultural entrepreneurship.
She received her PhD from Stockholm School of Economics in 2000, but did part of her doctoral studies at École des HEC in Montréal. She has been Associate Dean at Stockholm School of Economics and Guest Professor at University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm. Apart from research and teaching, Emma Stenström has also been hosting a TV-show about contemporary art for Swedish Television and she runs a regular column in the daily business paper, Dagens Industri, since 2000. She has also served, and is still serving, on several boards, for example the Swedish Arts Council, the Swedish Society for Crafts and Design, the International Scene for Contemporary Dance, and Stockholm University of the Arts.
