Linus Backemar

Head of Communications Committee and in charge of Ekonomgolfen

Board Member Linus Backemar is Client Director at Unilever. Prior to that, he spent four and half years as Brand Consultant and Project Manager at LynxEye. He was elected to the Board of the SSE Alumni Club in 2015 and is responsible for the annual “Golf for economists”. With his experience as a brand consultant, he is also a major asset to the Communications Committee.

During his time at SSE, Linus was involved in the Student Association, in the “Storpappa” leadership role in 2006, and in being responsible for SSE’s 100th anniversary in 2009. He was a founder of M2: Media Marketing, a labor market day with a focus on Media and Marketing

“My best memory from SSE has to be the various festivities during the 100th anniversary. How we managed to put it all together, all the highly-involved students, alumni and the collaboration with the school. We created a number of unforgettable events, the highlight of which must have been the big party at Münchenbryggeriet, where we took the guests from the Stockholm City Hall to the party by boat."

You have now been on the Board of the SSE Alumni Club since 2015. Why have you chosen to do so?

"Most importantly, I see it as a good opportunity to participate and influence the alumni efforts that are carried out. I see the SSE Alumni Club as a continuation of the work in the Student Union, and it felt like a natural step to take after graduation.”

Linus is in charge of the Ekonomgolfen event (gold tournament for SSE Alumni). Tell us a little about the competition?

“It is Sweden’s oldest golf competition and this year it was the 81st year of the competition. We have participants born in the 1930s to the 1990s, and it’s a great opportunity to network and socialize across generations. The fact that Ekonomgolfen has been held for more than 80 years is a sign that it is both popular and an important part of the SSE Alumni Club’s activities. The goal is for the competition to be as great as it was during its glory days. The year 2019 marks 85 years, while SSE will celebrate its 110th anniversary. It will be a fun competition to look forward to."
