About the Author
Jamaica Kincaid was born 1949 as Elaine Potter Richardson. She grew up on the Carribean island Antigua – a society deeply influenced by British rule. The experience had a great impact on her and she often writes about it in her books.
When she was 16 she was sent to New York City to work as an au pair. She started to take evening classes at a community college, and after a few years she was writing for The New Yorker. When her first works were published, she changed her name to Jamaica Kincaid.
Her novel The Autobiography of My Mother is a part of SSE Literary Agenda 2019/2020.
