This section describes the requirements for a student studying first academic year at SSE and the second year at HSG. In total students will take about 130 ECTS depending on specialization.
Year 1 Courses at SSE
To qualify for the Double Degree program, a SSE student has to take eight courses in her/his first year at SSE for a total of 60 ECTS, with each course being worth 7,5 ECTS.
In the first semester, the student takes the four mandatory courses, Advanced Mathematics, Advanced Microeconomics, Econometrics and Advanced Macroeconomics.
In the second semester, the student will follow different paths depending on which Master the student intends to pursue at HSG.
Students pursuing the Master of Arts in Economics at HSG take three mandatory courses, Applied Econometric Time Series, Dynamic Macroeconomic Analysis and International Trade, and choose one elective course.
Students pursuing the Master of Arts in Quantitative Economics and Finance at HSG take two mandatory courses, Applied Econometric Time Series and Dynamic Macroeconomic Analysis, and choose two elective courses (at least one in economics).
Year 2 Courses at HSG
Students pursuing a Master of Arts in Economics at HSG shall complete the following course work;

Thesis (30 ECTS)
SSE requires a thesis amounting to 30 as opposed to 18 ECTS at HSG. To fulfil this requirement, SSE students spending their second year at HSG will write a thesis encompassing 30 ECTS with the support of two supervisors: one from SSE and one from HSG.
Students will submit their thesis to both institutions, according to their specific given rules and deadlines provided. The thesis is graded independently at respective institution. SSE students will defend their thesis at SSE and attend the required thesis seminars (during their first year) to fulfil SSE examination requirements.
Note: Students participating in the double degree program must write a single-authored thesis.
