A recent report from the Stockholm Academic Forum shows that the number of international students in Stockholm is approaching 10,000, an increase of 26 percent over the past five academic years. International students now make up a total of 11 percent of the total student population in Stockholm.

The Stockholm School of Economics has the highest proportion of international students out of all the city’s universities.

An international business school

“SSE has always been part of an international community, with a substantial share of international faculty and students,” says Katarina Hägg, Vice President of External Relations and International Affairs at SSE. “In recent years, Stockholm has become increasingly attractive as a vibrant region where entrepreneurship and innovation flourish. At the same time our program offering has internationalized dramatically, and we have even more clearly established ourselves as an international business school on a global arena. For SSE this has led to an important increase in both applications and admissions of students from all over the world, and that’s a development with which we are very pleased.”

The majority of the international students come from China, followed by Germany and Finland. But the largest increase is in the number of Indian students, a group that has grown by 75 percent over the past three years.
