An increasing number of family firms choose to select a non-family CEO for the highest executive office when there is no suitable family member available. A recent example of this is the Swedish retail giant H&M where the third generation family member Karl-Johan Persson recently handed over to the non-family CEO Helena Helmersson. However, appointing a non-family CEO in a family firm tends to give rise to tensions.

Today marks the launch of a new accelerator program called Activate from the SSE Business Lab, the incubator unit at the Stockholm School of Economics. Activate can be used by students and alumni who want to develop a prototype and begin commercial sales over a summer. The program provides ambitious entrepreneurs the support they need to quickly get to market.
Stockholm School of Economics creates House of Innovation

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) has strengthened its innovation profile by launching the House of Innovation, a new interdisciplinary research, education and outreach environment. The House focuses on research and teaching within innovation, digitalization and entrepreneurship, and is made possible through one of the largest single donations to SSE to date: The Erling-Persson Family Foundation is supporting the new initiative with SEK 150 million.
Claire Ingram Bogusz awarded for her doctoral thesis

Dr Claire Ingram Bogusz, a post-doctoral researcher at the House of Innovation, was jointly awarded the 2018 Börje Langefors prize for her doctoral dissertation, “Crowds, Coins and Communities: Digital Entrepreneuring in Emerging Financial Infrastructures”. The prize is awarded annually by SISA: the Swedish Academy for Information Systems.
