Marieke Huysentruyt is an applied micro-economist, whose research covers the fields of organizational economics, poverty and social policy, holding academic positions at SITE, Stockholm School of Economics and London School of Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the LSE, MSc in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell, and MSc in Bio-Engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven. She has also held visiting research positions at the Santa Fe Institute and Harvard University.
Marieke is also the co-initiator and scientific leader of a large-scale FP7-funded research initiatives "SELUSI" and "SEFORIS". In these projects teams of academics investigate social enterprises and social business innovation in Europe and exploit innovative research methods to advance understanding of the role that social enterprises in and outside Europe play towards the development and growth of more inclusive, innovative societies.
Marieke Huysentruyt is co-founder and partner of i-propeller, a social business innovation consultancy based in Brussels. I-propeller strives to advance practical, intelligent methods and instruments that enable organizations in Europe and beyond to exploit innovation opportunities created by emerging societal trends.
