Courses

The Department of Marketing and Strategy has educated many generations of SSE students who have made notable contributions to the industry and the society at large.

The Department runs courses in all programs at SSE: In the Bachelor program in Business and Economics, in the Bachelor program in Retail Management, and in the Master programs. Our marketing courses are especially attractive for the students looking for a career in marketing (of course) – or in creating, developing and running a business to achieve its goal by creating values through the supply-chain, i.e. ‘to do business’, which marketing is really about.

In the first year of the Bachelor program we run two courses in marketing, the first focusing on strategic issues and what you need to know about a market to run a business successfully. The second course is focusing on how you manage marketing. In the second year we introduce the students to the fundamentals of strategy in the course ‘Business Strategy’, which focuses on how firms compete to achieve higher profitability. In the third year we offer a marketing specialization with two courses, one focusing on business-to-business marketing and the other on consumer behavior and consumer marketing. In the Bachelor program in Retail management, most courses are related to different retail specific aspects of marketing.

In the Master programs we offer a specialization in Marketing and Media Management with courses covering such areas as strategic marketing, business development, managing a media company, brand management and marketing communications. Here we also involve companies, and many projects are real projects commissioned by companies.

All faculty hold PhD degrees and are active researchers in the above areas. Courses designed and delivered by the Department of Marketing and Strategy always aim at offering the students a solid academic basis for meeting real-life problems, and we also let the students encounter these problems within the courses. The practical relevance of our teaching is also reflected by the many teachers participating in the executive education and being invited as guest lecturers or experts by companies, by the media and by other organizations in the society.
