When Reputation Takes a Hit: Do Directors Turn to CSR?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is often viewed as a way for firms to build trust with stakeholders and strengthen their reputations. But what happens when the reputational challenge arises not at the firm level, but at the level of the individual director?
In this seminar, Irina Gazizova, Assistant Professor at the Department of Accounting at the Stockholm School of Economics presents new research examining whether directors who experience reputational damage increase CSR engagement in the firmson whose boards they serve.
We will discuss:
- The reputational transmission from the corporate level to the individual director level
- How compromised directors influence CSR decisions inside the boardroom
- Whether CSR engagement helps directors rebuild their reputation and reduce negative labor market consequences
