The First Tipii
"Her paintings are created with a natural feeling for both the Nordic light and its spatial construction and are reminiscent of a strange yet familiar world. The starting point for her work is often a performance or a ritual in which a character takes shape, a character who then gets a central role in the painting." - Göteborg's Konsthall.
Sara-Vide Ericson (f.1983) studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (2004–2009). She lives and works in Hälsingland, Sweden. With exhibitions in Sweden and internationally she has been established as one of the most influential artists of her generation in Sweden.
When recently asked how she would describe her art to someone who has never seen it, her answer was*:
– As representational oil painting, at least from a distance. Because when you get closer, the larger image breaks apart into an expressive, violent puzzle of color, and traces of a frenzied pounding with the brush and other tools. Sometimes with people in landscapes, and often filled with strong contrasts between light and dark. Sometimes I also squirt the paint, so that it builds up body and can rise from the canvas like a topography.
