Martin Skoglund

Meet Martin – Chief Financial Officer at Atlas Antibodies. Martin is a BSc in Business & Economics and MSc in Accounting and Financial Management alum.

Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis.

I am the CFO of a fast-growing life science company based in Stockholm. In this role, I am leading the work in the Finance function and also have the IT team reporting to me. Since it is a small business with  lots to do, I also spend much time on corporate development and M&A activities.

What interested you about the field/company/role you are currently in?

The company is active in a very interesting and dynamic sector, with lots of growth potential.  It is also nice to work with something that helps people. In a relatively small business, the CFO position is great for someone with my background who can combine the "technical" accounting and finance skills with a commercial view.

Why did you choose to study your subject area at SSE?

The accounting and finance specializations at SSE are known to be demanding during the studies and rewarding afterwards. During my Bsc., I liked the introductory courses and the teachers, so it was an easy choice.

How did your time/education at SSE help guide you to the career journey you have embarked on?

SSE offered a lot of opportunities to meet with potential employers "after hours", often with multiple corporate events every week. And then there is also the very positive influence from studying alongside a lot of motivated students who in many cases had better "insight" into the different career paths than I did.

What path did you take from graduation to where you are now?

  • I worked a lot of different internships and part-time jobs during my studies, testing out different industries and also building experience
  • I then started working for one of the larger investment management firms in Stockholm, eventually focusing on private, wholly-owned investments
  • About half a year ago, I joined the management team of Atlas Antibodies, a company where I used to be a Board representative

Following your time studying and living in Stockholm, do you have any words of wisdom or advice you would like to share with our current students?

In order to get the most out of SSE, make sure to spend time with your classmates  outside the lectures and seminars. For example, I was quite active in many of the student union's events and I am very thankful for that today.
