"The Drivers behind India's Rise as the World's 3rd largest economy" with Dr. Amitendu Palit, Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore

India has rapidly risen to become one of the major economies of the world. The talk will reflect on key policies enabling its economic rise using insights drawn from India’s states. It will focus on India’s growing integration into the global market of products and services and its engagement in various FTAs, especially with the EU, UK and the US.
The presentation will also discuss challenges that lie ahead in relation to India’s position in the world, especially its progress towards becoming the world’s 3rd largest economy after the US and China, in relation to the changing geoeconomic and geopolitical context.

Dr. Amitendu Palit is Senior Research Fellow and Research Lead (Trade and Economics) at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is an economist specializing in international trade and investment policies, free trade agreements, political economy of external policies and the Indian economy. Prior to joining ISAS at the NUS, he spent several years working in India’s Ministry of Finance and the Ministries of Industry and Civil Supplies. He is also a Senior Associate Research Fellow with the Asia Centre of the ISPI at Milan, Italy, and Adjunct Faculty with the Centre for WTO Studies, IIFT, India. He was on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Trade and Investment. He is the author and editor of several books and has written extensively for peer-reviewed academic journals. He comments frequently for CNBC, CNA, Bloomberg and various other major global media and TV platforms and is a columnist with India’s Financial Express.
