EFI - The Economic Research Institute

A Strong and Flexible Research Community

Research and new knowledge stand at the very core of every society’s development. The economy and its corporations thrive on the continuous production, emergence and transfer of knowledge, as does society at large.

The long-term aim of EFI - The Economic Research Institute, is to promote, carry out and publish high-quality research in the economic and social sciences.

EFI was established in 1929 as an integral part of the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), with the mission to conduct research. Today, our researchers work predominantly in the areas of economics and business administration, as well as in related disciplines such as finance and law.

The Institute has 20 centers, and is the largest research institute at the School. The majority of externally funded projects are hosted and managed at the Institute and the individual researchers at the centers are active today in a great variety of small and large projects and programs. Many of them also work in dynamic groups with other researchers within or outside the School.

The aim of the Institute and its centers is in accordance with the School’s mission of offering high-quality business education with a strong base in the faculty’s research.
