PhD in Economics

Admission and Financing

To be eligible for the PhD programs, students should have four years of university studies as a background before applying.

Prerequisites

The required four years of previous university studies should comprise at least three semesters of Economics and/or Finance, including an advanced course in Microeconomics and an advanced essay.

All non-Swedish applicants are required to take the general GRE test (Graduate Record Exam) (institution code 7016, department code 1801). Note that non-Swedish applicants with a degree from a Swedish university do not need to take the test. If you have taken the TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language), please provide the score and a copy of the official test result.

Financial Support

The Stockholm School of Economics offers scholarships for graduate studies, and all students admitted receive a scholarship for their first year provided they have a university degree, e.g. a BA, MSc or MA. A student who receives a scholarship for the first year of study may expect the scholarship to be renewed for the second year provided that the course requirements for the first year are fulfilled.
