PhD in Business Administration

Admission and Financing

Every year, a small group of around 12 highly qualified applicants are admitted to the doctoral program in Business Administration. For application information, see Application Information.
For success in the program, creativity, ability to provide deep insights and criticism, and a predisposition toward being independently motivated are significant aspects.

There are certain requirements for admission to the SSE PhD Program in Business Administration, for exact details see Application Information. Applicants need at least  a Master or comparable academic degree, and must have at least one and a half years of studies in Business Administration. A good result in the GMAT  or GRE exam is also needed. As the program is in English, mastery of the English language is obligatory.

Admission is granted by the Admissions Board for SSE PhD Programs. A Primary Supervisor is appointed for each doctoral student at the time of admission. This person plays a key role in guiding students through the program. At the end of the second year of study, after the dissertation proposal has been approved, a Supervision Committee of three to four professors (including the Primary Supervisor) takes on the responsibility of supervising the PhD student.

Interaction with the Primary Supervisor and Supervision Committee is instrumental in helping the student to integrate both required and elective coursework that reflect the student’s unique interests, and in helping with the dissertation process.

SSE provides a tax-exempt scholarship of SEK13,000 per month to all doctoral students in Business Administration who commence the program, but candidates are encouraged to secure financing from an outside source.
