Housing in Stockholm 

It has proved quite difficult to find housing in Stockholm, especially in the beginning of the semester when the Swedish students are also looking for accommodation. Therefore it is important to start well in advance when finding your own accommodation.

Stockholm School of Economics has some rooms and apartments that are sublet to students, guest researchers and visitors affiliated to SSE, but we cannot guarantee anyone accommodation.

We recommend you to apply both to our housing and to other housing opportunities. Below you can find suggestions on how to look for accommodation on your own and how to apply to our rooms/apartments.

SSE provides student housing mainly in five areas:

Johannesgatan

Located in the city center, about 10 minutes’ walk to SSE. The building contains both rooms and apartments. All of them are furnished. Primarily sublet to international PhD and MSc students.

Rådmansgatan

Located in the city center, very close to SSE. The apartments are newly built and furnished. The size differs from 13 sqm to 45 sqm. Most of the apartments consist of one room and a few consist of two rooms. Primarily sublet to international PhD and MSc students.

Saltmätargatan (Saltis)

Located in the city center, close to SSE. The apartments consist of one room with basiq cooking facilities and a bathroom with shower and toilet. All apartments are furnished and electricity and internet access is included in the rent. A few apartments are larger with two beds and can be shared by two persons. Primarily sublet to exchange students.

Lappkärrsberget (Lappis)

Located north of the city centre in Stockholms largest student housing area. Rooms at Lappkärrsberget are furnished and has a a bathroom with shower and toilet and access to a shared kitchen. The rooms are 18 sqm and electricity is included in the rent. Only sublet to exchange students.

Liljeholmen

Located south-west of the city centre in a residential area. The apartments are 30 sqm with a kitchen, balcony and a bathroom with shower and toilet. The aparments are furnished and electricity is included in the rent. Primarily sublet to international PhD and MSc students.

How to apply to the SSE rooms/apartments:

If you are an exchange student you will receive and email regarding housing from our Exchange Coordinator of the incoming exchange students. In the email there will be a link where you can apply for housing.

If you are a Master-student or a PhD-student, please register for the housing queue by sending an email to SSEhousing@hhs.se. When applying, please let us know what kind of accommodation you are looking for.

You as an exchange student can use our housing platform www.HousingAnywhere.com both to find a room in Stockholm and to rent out your room at home. You can earn some extra money for your exchange and you will help our outgoing exchange students by increasing the supply of short-stay housing in your home city. You might even be able to change rooms/apartments with an outgoing SSE student. The website is free to use and it operates on a student-to-student basis. This site is designed for exchange students but it is also possible for other students to find a room here.

SwedenInTouch
A good start can also be made by visiting the web site SwedenInTouch. It is the official web site for international students in Sweden and you can search for information and post ads in different forums. You will find ads regarding housing under http://www.swedenintouch.se/Forum/ and then under "Social" you will see a headline called Accommodation. On the web site you can also get a short review of different student accommodation agencies in Stockholm and learn a bit about their supply. Moreover you can take a look at the following sites:

www.akademiskkvart.se
Akademisk kvart was founded in 2011 on initiative by SSCO - Stockholm Federation of Student Unions.
Akademisk kvart is an intermedium for subleasing of accommodation. Their primary target groups are persons studying in Stockholm. To place an ad on Akademisk kvart is free of charge. All you need to do is to become a member.

SSSB
The leading student accommodation provider in Stockholm; Stiftelsen Stockholms Studentbostäder. Queue free of charge. This queue you can only sign up for when you have arrived in Stockholm and joined the Student Association.

Stockholms Stads Bostadsförmedling
Queue for student and non-student accommodation in Stockholm County. Queue cost 225 SEK per year. Not recommended for exchange students as the queue is quite long.

Huge Fastigheter
Property owner with student accommodation in southern Stockholm County. Queue free of charge.

Private sublets
Secondhand lease market place, register and pay a fee to gain full access to ads.

The Local
