Current Research Program and Projects:


Political Participation, Political Connections and Entrepreneurship in China

Following gradual economic reforms, the private sector has become an increasingly important ingredient in the Chinese economy. However, private entrepreneurs have long been discriminated against in different ways. The aim of this research program is to improve our understanding of how private entrepreneurs accumulate political capital in order to facilitate preferential treatment.

Land Property Rights and Land Disputes 

Disputes over land make up a majority of the growing number of social disturbances in China. Weak property rights is a key factor contributing to land disputes. The current research project analyze the impact of land property reforms in Chengdu, focusing on the impact on the prevalence and severity of land disputes.

China’s Financial Markets and Financial Integration

While the Chinese economy has undergone significant during the last 30 years, the country’s financial markets are still in many ways underdeveloped. This research program aims to improve our understanding of the development of China’s financial markets and China’s financial integration with the rest of the world.
